CRITERIA FOR SELECTION TO THE IBCA HALL OF FAME |
| COACHES: Boys'
Basketball (maximum 12), Girls' Basketball (maximum 5) each year
A. Coached for 20 years or more AND Coaches qualifying in all four of these are automatic selections. There may be exceptions to the above in case a coach qualifies in two of the first three (A-B-C) above or if he/she is extremely close in those three catagories. Examples: B. A coach coached 20 years, close to 400 victories, and had great success in tournaments, especially the IHSA State series. C. A coach coached close to 20 years, close to 400 victories, and
had great success in tournaments, and outstanding success in the IHSA
State series.
Consideration should be given to coaches who spent many years in schools who were not necessarily noted for being strong basketball schools. * Note: We can not compare candidates who were inducted in previous years. We have been lenient in some situations in the past, but we can not change those decisions. We will try to be as fair as possible in the future.. |
| CAREER COACHES:
This category was created to also honor a limited number of coaches who
did not meet criteria of getting in as a head coach, but are close.
(3 maximum after the first two years). The original name of this
category was "Assistant Coaches", but was modified to it's
current title in 2004.
A. 30 plus years coaching basketball B. Will consider the school or schools where he/she coached, on all levels. C. Will consider the success at these schools. D. Will consider the dedication to coaching basketball. E. Will consider wins, championships, etc. NOTE: Not everyone who coached 30+ years will be automatically inducted! |
| PLAYERS: Boys'
Basketball (maximum 20), Girls' Basketball (maximum 7)
A. Must have played their high school basketball in the Illinois School System. B. Can be a great high school player with no great, or even no college stats at all. C. Can be a good high school player, but then goes on to a great
college and/or pro career. D. Most pro players from an Illinois H.S. will be automatic. D. Many players are still in the pros at some level in the U.S. or Europe. It would be best to wait until they finish their careers before induction. E. Must wait 5 years after high school graduation or their high school class' graduation date to be considered. |
| FRIEND OF BASKETBALL:
(25 maximum)
A. Must have contributed greatly to the game of basketball. B. And may have, in addition, been an outstanding citizen in their community. Examples: Timers, Scorers, Fans, Some coaches who had short careers with great success who continued in education as an A.D., Referee, Principal, or Superintendent. C. 20 year minimum |
| MEDIA: (8

A. Consider number of years B. Plus contributions to the game of basketball Examples: Sports writers, T.V. sports reporter / director, T.V. announcers, Radio sports directors, Radio announcers, etc. |
| OFFICIALS: (12
maximum)
A. Twenty+ years B. Outstanding careers - number of tournaments - especially the number of state tournament assignments with Regionals, Sectionals, and State Finals. C. Held in high esteem by his colleagues. D. May include number of years in collegiate ranks. E. Any strong combination of these above areas. |
| TEAMS:
A. All State Champion Teams from 1923 to the present, plus some other State Champions prior to 1923 - Boys' and Girls' teams. B. Pre-selected to the Year 2014 C. Any college, university and junior college teams that were National Champions (NCAA, NIT, or NCAA "Final 4"). D. Any special teams will be considered by the board, such as 30+ wins, place in state final 4, etc. |
